Hurt retires following twenty-year career

This Friday, after exactly two decades keeping Howard County’s roads in shape, Howard County Roads Foreman Ray Hurt will be hanging up his hat. Hurt will retire on March 13th, his twentieth anniversary with the department.
County preparing for primary election

With just over two months to get ready for the May 12th primary election, Howard County Election Commissioner Brenda Klanecky says preparations are well underway. As of now, 4,405 voters are registered in the county, slightly fewer than the 4,564 registered in 2024.

FOLLOWING FIRE COUNTY ISSUES Extent of damage from Sunday blaze unknown Following a large grass fire that occurred east of Cotesfield on Sunday afternoon, March 8th, Howard County has issued a disaster declaration and declared a state of emergency. The declaration, signed by Howard County Board of Commissioners Chairman Kathy Hirschman on Monday morning, authorizes the chairman to “execute for and on behalf of Howard County the expenditure of emergency funds” and to apply to the State of Nebraska for financial assistance.
