Over sixty people attended an informational meeting on the Elba school on Monday evening. The meeting was held prior to the regular meeting of the Elba Board of Education. Superintendent Shalikow noted that Elba’s ninth through twelfth grade enrollment is below twenty-five this year and is projected to be at or below twenty-five percent next year. When that happens, state law says the school must close…One avenue that the Elba School Board is exploring is to unify with another school district… Another option would be to consolidate with another school district. “When that happens, you lose all of your control and become part of the other school,” Shalikow said…There were some negative comments about consolidating with St. Paul, but one parent said that the experience of cooperating sports with St. Paul has been very positive.

I checked the flows of the rivers on Sunday morning. Both rivers are running a little higher this week.

The Federal Communications Commission is currently investigating the cause of an outage that led to disruptions in 911 service in portions of Nebraska, South Dakota, Texas, and Nevada last Wednesday. In Howard County, the outage had left calls to 911 ringing busy for just over one hour last Wednesday night.
