Voters in St. Paul, Palmer school districts reject bond issues

Today, voters in the St. Paul school district rejected a nearly $18 million bond issue that would have funded facility improvements at St. Paul Public Schools.

On Tuesday, just before 6:00 p.m., Howard County Election Commissioner Brenda Klanecky reported that, unofficially, 784 patrons of the district voted against the bond issue, while 602 voted in favor of it.

Fifty percent of vote already cast in special election

With four days remaining for voters in the St. Paul school district to submit their ballots for St. Paul Public Schools’ special bond election, over fifty percent of votes have already been cast.

Late Friday afternoon, Howard County Election Commissioner Brenda Klanecky reported that, as of 4:00 p.m., 1,301 ballots had been received by her office. Klanecky reported that, over 2,500 ballots had been sent out in the all-mail special election.

DOANE UNIVERSITY Doane Athletics recently announced the Athletics Semester Honor Roll and High Honor Roll for the fall 2023 semester. The academic honor will be awarded to student-athletes who record a 3.0 or higher grade point average (GPA) in the semester, with the High Honor Roll awarded for a 3.5 or higher GPA.

Captain Jon Nielsen, a native of St. Paul, received the twenty-sixth annual U.S. Army Europe-level General Doulas MaxArthur Leadership Award at a ceremony on February 21st. Nielsen is the commander of Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) based in Vicenza, Italy. He is the son of Bob and Pam Nielsen of St. Paul. The MacArthur Award program began in 1987 and recognizes company-grade and junior warrant officers who demonstrate MacArthur’s ideals of “Duty, Honor, Country” and have a proven track record of extraordinary performance, leadership, and achievement.
