Numerous donations help department fund the purchase of new K9 Howard County’s new police service dog, a one-and-a-half-yearold Belgian Malinois named Dusty, and his handler, Howard County Sheriff’s Deputy Malik Bearheels, completed narcotics dog training early this month, certifying the pair to operate as a team for the purposes of narcotics detection in accordance with state law. Dusty—whose name will likely change in the weeks or months to come—came into the county’s possession in mid-July of this year, having been purchased from BlueStreak K9, a law enforcement dog training company operating out of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

The Howard County Sheriff’s Office and St. Paul Police Department are working together with the Grand Island Police Department on a rash of stolen vehicles and property. Sheriff Harold Schenck said at least five vehicles have been recently stolen in Grand Island and two in St. Paul. Both of St. Paul’s vehicles were recovered in Grand Island, and one of Grand Island’s stolen vehicles was recovered by Howard County in Dannebrog. He said one of the stolen vehicles from St. Paul contained stolen property from three different individuals. Sheriff Schenck stated that two different individuals have been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.
