Quick, somebody give the Governor a shovel. I want to see how much deeper he can dig the hole.

During the summer following my freshman year in college, I had gotten an internship in downtown Omaha. While I thought the pay was great, at ten dollars an hour, it was far from what a starving college student needed in order to call the urban core of the state’s largest city home.

There are plenty of distractions. Ukraine vs Russia, Israel vs the Palestinians, Republicans vs Other Republicans.

A couple weeks ago, in his weekly Sunday homily, my parish priest made mention, in passing, of one of the greatest sports movies of all time. I am not for sure what the context was, as I may not have been paying full attention— I will confess that here instead of inside the confessional— but for some reason, as soon as he made the reference, that movie, Hoosiers, was on the forefront of my mind.

If you happened to have hit the road lately, there is a better chance than not that you have noticed that we have transitioned seasons here in the Cornhusker State. Governor Jim Pillen had an epiphany that paying a consultant ten million dollars over the next four years would save the state money. Pillen has signed the $2.5 million/year contract, renewable three times, with Epiphany Associates of Utah to find ways to save the state money.
