Days Gone By

Body
Compiled from the files of The Phonograph-Herald Ten Years Ago, 2012 Temperatures near seventy degrees on December 2nd found many folks in Dannebrog for the Danish Christmas celebration. Holiday music performances, craft vendors, kids’ activities, book signings, and various meals throughout the day provided enjoyment for all in attendance.

Ten Years Ago, 2012 Nearly 100 children were in Wolbach on Sunday afternoon to visit with Santa Claus at the community center. Some were naughty and some were nice! The top-ten-ranked Cedar Valley girls won their opening game Thursday night at Clarkson/ Leigh 56-38 after leading 16-7, 30-12, and 38-22 at the quarter breaks.

Thank you to all of the people that helped make John Steenson’s service so wonderful. To Father Vince and the musicians, thank you for the touching service. Thank you to the Wolbach community for the luncheon, especially, Lori Dilsaver and Judy O’Gorman for organizing it. And last, but certainly not least, thank you to Jacobsen-Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home for all their wonderful help in putting this all together. It was the most fitting send-off for a wonderful man that we will dearly miss.

It may have been hot and a little humid, but think how hot hell must be! We still made it through Mass and the day’s festivities much easier than all of those before us did because we were not wearing white shirts, ties, suitcoats, dresses, hose, and hats. God bless all of those who helped in any way with the success of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel celebration on Sunday, July 17th. The board of Friends of Paplin continue to use the funds raised to repair, restore, and preserve the historic Paplin church property.

Ten Years Ago, 2012 With only one player returning from last year’s state runner-up team, the odds were against the Palmer-Wolbach-Greeley-Spalding (PWGS) Juniors returning to the state tournament this year. But the squad overcame the odds and will take a 16-9 record into the Class C State Tournament at North Bend.

Happ-enings

About five years ago, my family decided to take the first of what would be several semi-regular summer vacations together. They decided that the days spanning the Fourth of July Weekend would be the perfect period to get out of town, and had set their sights on Crawford and Fort Robinson State Park.
