I don’t remember much about my recent sixty-four-block ambulance ride from my house to an urban hospital, but I was told after the fact that it was a matter of a few minutes to keep my body from going into septic shock.

A couple weeks ago, in his weekly Sunday homily, my parish priest made mention, in passing, of one of the greatest sports movies of all time. I am not for sure what the context was, as I may not have been paying full attention— I will confess that here instead of inside the confessional— but for some reason, as soon as he made the reference, that movie, Hoosiers, was on the forefront of my mind.
