Loueen Jean Stefanowicz

Loueen Jean Stefanowicz, 81, of Grand Island, formerly of Farwell, died Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society in Grand Island.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Reverend John Doolittle officiated.

Kay Meyer was the organist.

Congregation hymns included “Abide With Me,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “Amazing Grace.”

Casketbearers were Brian Brahmstedt, Thomas Jerabek, Joe Jerabek, BJ Rathman, Brad Rathman, and Dan Stefanowicz.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Ladies Aid.

Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting Loueen’s family.

Loueen was born on March 12, 1945, at York, the daughter of Ervin H. and Rose W. (Pieper) Brahmstedt. She grew up on the family farm near Waco, received her education in the area, and graduated from Waco High School.

She then attended Kearney State College, where she received her teaching degree in physical education. She began her teaching career with Columbus Public Schools and later taught for Loup City Public Schools.

She was united in marriage to Anton T. “Jake” Stefanowicz on June 11, 1971, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island.

The couple lived and farmed together near Farwell. On January 11, 2011, they moved to the Good Samaritan Society in Grand Island. Anton died December 17, 2011, and Loueen continued to live there until her passing.

Loueen was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul.

She was a kind and quiet person and an animal lover, especially fond of her dogs and the baby calves.

She is survived by a sister, Ellie Westwood of Waco; a brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Keren Brahmstedt of McCool Junction; sisterin law, Sandy Brahmstedt of York; special nephew and his wife, Frank and Natalie Stefanowicz of Grand Island; and several other nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great- great-nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Ralph and Bill Brahmstedt.
