SACK: Andrew and Jaime (Hoge) Sack of Columbus are excited to announce the birth of their triplet sons. The boys were born on June 20, 2022 at Methodist Women’s Hospital in Omaha. Jackson Gerald was born at five pounds and four ounces, Emmett James was born at four pounds and three ounces, and Jay Andrew was born at four pounds and nine ounces. The three will soon be welcomed home by their three-year-old big sister, Elsie Claire. Grandparents are Jim and Sue Hoge of Columbus and Jerry and Barb Sack of St. Paul. Great-grandparents are Hank and Betty Heimann of Columbus and Victor Goerl of Grand Island.

Ten Years Ago, 2012 Mick and Loretta McDowell will be forever grateful to four young men whose persistence saved their lives on Saturday morning. Around 2:00 a.m., Brandon Nowak was driving his friends, Remington Smith, Mathew McCarty, and Kyle McClary, home…when they noticed the flames at Miletta Vista Winery.

The water in the rivers has dropped more. The South Loup River on Friday morning had a discharge of 86.0 cubic feet per second, and the Middle Loup River’s discharge was 396 cubic feet per second. On July 1, 2021, both rivers had about double the water they do today.

Lending a Hand

SLOPPY JOES were on the menu last Thursday during the Lunch Bunch program at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Parish Life Center. The annual program, which is a partnership between the Howard-Greeley Food Pantry and several local organizations, is once again seeing strong attendance this summer. Volunteers – including Ursula Sorlie and Mary Ann Rickertsen (above) – with the United Methodist Church of St. Paul provided last Thursday’s meal. (Michael Happ)

Dode Recognized by History Nebraska

Every Monday, on various social media platforms, History Nebraska highlights one of the over 500 historical markers dotting the Nebraska landscape as part of “Marker Monday.”

On the last day of the College World Series, and with St. Paul's Grover Cleveland Alexander Days just around the corner, the Nebraska historical organization paid homage to Dode. On June 27th, Marker Monday highlighted the marker erected in the St. Paul City Park in Alexander’s honor.
