Wieser Retires Following Twenty-Six Year Career

An employee who worked for over a quarter of a century at the Howard County Medical Center (HCMC) donned her scrubs for the last time at the end of February. At a farewell party last Tuesday, February 28th, Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Jeanette Wieser and her colleagues gathered together to celebrate the culmination of her twent y-six-year career as an employee of the county’s critical access hospital.

The Greeley-Wolbach welding team of Colin Oakley, Zach Houtby, and E.J Graff finished in first place at the district welding contest and qualified for the state contest, which will be held at Southeast Community College in Lincoln in April as part of the State FFA Convention. This is the second year in a row that the team has qualified for state. The district contest was held on February 18th in Grand Island. Oakley was second in O/A welding, Houtby fourth in arc welding, and Graff fifth in wire welding…The G/W team beat out teams from Sargent, Centura, Loup City, Loup County, Ravenna, Ord, St. Paul, North Loup-Scotia, and Sumner-Eddyville-Miller for the district title.

CNHi Awards St. Paul’s STS Program $21,000 Grant

Last Tuesday, representatives from Case New Holland Industrial (CNHi), the equipment and manufacturer in Grand Island, and the Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL) made their way to St. Paul Public Schools (SPPS) to present a CNHi welding grant award of $21,000 to the district and to spend some time talking to the skilled and technical sciences (STS) and vocational agriculture students about employment opportunities at CNHi and more generally.

Centura Community Turns Out in Spades to Support Team

Members of the Centura community are no strangers to the finals of the NSAA State Girls Basketball Tournament, with the Centurions having played for state titles in both 2001 and 2000. However, twenty years removed from their last trip to play on the state’s biggest stage, fans of Centura girls’ basketball were all too willing to show up and support their team.
