Numerous donations help department fund the purchase of new K9 Howard County’s new police service dog, a one-and-a-half-yearold Belgian Malinois named Dusty, and his handler, Howard County Sheriff’s Deputy Malik Bearheels, completed narcotics dog training early this month, certifying the pair to operate as a team for the purposes of narcotics detection in accordance with state law. Dusty—whose name will likely change in the weeks or months to come—came into the county’s possession in mid-July of this year, having been purchased from BlueStreak K9, a law enforcement dog training company operating out of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
