The Centura High School junior, who entered the tournament with a 31-9 record, battled illness throughout his two-day stint in Omaha, and that struggle left the Centurion searching for energy on the mat.

Class C: St. Paul storms into state tournament

There will be a bit of Blue and Gold on the mats at the CHI Health Center on Friday night.

Thursday evening, three St. Paul Wildcats automatically punched their tickets to the “Best Night in High School Sports” with a pair of victories during the quarterfinal round of the Class C State Wrestling Tournament.

Rylan Rasmussen had a roller coaster 9-8 victory over Francisco Juan of Madison in the quarterfinals at 113-pounds. That was Rasmussen’s second win of the tournament. The Wildcat pinned Chase Schwartz of Stanton in the opening round.

Class D: Cougars, Tigers roll early in Omaha

The Central Valley Cougars started the first session of the NSAA State Wrestling Championships sitting in the top three in Class D

On Thursday morning at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Central Valley amassed forty team points to finish the morning sitting in third. Plainview was anchored atop the leaderboard with 44.5 points. Burwell was second with 41.5.

Of the Cougars’ eight state qualifiers, Lincoln Nekoliczak, William Pokorny, and Grady Kelley all finished the morning undefeated.
