Greeley County GOP Vice Chairman Nadine Bane recently announced that she is running to represent Nebraska’s 41st District in the Nebraska Unicameral in 2025. Senator Tom Briese, who has served in the legislature since 2017, will reach his term limit at the end of the body’s 2024 session.

Centura Public Schools (CPS), which sees students returning to its halls this Thursday, welcomed a new elementary principal this academic year: Janet Brown. Hired following an interview in March, Brown had begun her move in June, before officially starting with Centura on July 3rd.
Following an hour-long public hearing during their first meeting for the month of August last Tuesday, the Howard County Commissioners voted 2-1 to deny a conditional use permit (CUP) application for a new Verizon communication tower west of Cushing.
STUDENTS across Howard County were scheduled to return to class this week, with school starting in Elba on Tuesday and at St. Paul and Centura on Thursday. Last Thursday, in preparation for the upcoming year, the Elba School community held its annual Back-to-School Bash. The July meeting of the 49 County Clovers started off with the 4-H pledge. The group talked about some of the extra fair activities, including movie night, the water balloon fight, and livestock judging. Following this, they began their showmanship practice. They had cattle, horses, goats, sheep, dogs, and small animals. It was a great learning experience and chance for those members who haven’t shown animals to see what shows are all about.
