Wayne Carl Kock
Wayne Carl Kock, age 62, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on October 4, 2024, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital, with his family at his side.
Wayne was born on August 24, 1962, in Harlan, Iowa, to LaVern and Judith (Hess) Kock. He attended high school in Palmer, after which he moved to Grand Island and worked for Wilson’s Sanitation. In 1978, he met his wife, Deborah Lynn Pavlik. The pair were wedded on July 18, 1981 in Brush, Colorado. From this union came four children: Johnathan Wayne, Jason William, Justin Wade, and Joshua Wyatt. The young family tried life in the states of Colorado, Texas, and Iowa before returning home and settling in Nebraska.
Wayne was known to his family and friends as a hard worker. Everything he did, from feeding cattle, to factory work, to pulling double shifts at the packing plant, was to provide for his family. He enjoyed exploring self-employment opportunities, such as recycling, breeding dogs, and mowing. He was a jackof- all-trades. Wayne had a deep fondness for truck driving and was a member of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association. Aside from trucking, Wayne really enjoyed fishing. He also liked camping, car shows, and animals, and he loved being around his grandchildren.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, LaVern and Judith Kock; brothers, Paul and David Kock; sons, Johnathan and Jason Kock; father and mother-in-law, Larry and Margene (Hathaway) Pavlik; sister-in-law, Jennifer Pavlik; nephew, Zachary Pavlik; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Kock of Cedar Rapids; sons, Justin Kock of Norfolk and Josh (Tonya) Kock of Norfolk; brother, Bruce (Janice) Kock of David City; brothers-in-law, Russel Pavlik of Grand Island and Mark Pavlik of Central City; daughter- in-law, Emily Kock of Belden; family friend, Tishina Holtz; thirteen grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, October 10th at Jacobsen-Greenway- Dietz Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Pastor Dan Bear provided words of comfort.
Musical selections included “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi, “I Cross My Heart” by George Strait,” and “Psalm 23” by Kaleena Smith and Trish Holtz.
Mark Pavlik, Russel Pavlik, M.J. Pavlik, Tyler Pavlik, Eric Smith, and Robert Collins were pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers included Ray Auten, Dean Kock, Dylan Kock, Cade Kock, Eric Berglund, Wesley Peacock, Nicole Glatter, +Jonathan Kock, and +Jason Kock.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
