Ruth Ann Rother Passes at Age 74
Ruth Ann Rother was born to Raymond and Irene (L’Heureux) Wunderlich on March 2, 1948 in Burwell. She grew up in Burwell, the fourth of six children born to this union. Ruth Ann graduated from Burwell High School.
She was united in marriage to Thomas Rother on September 30, 1972 in Grand Island. This union was blessed with six children.
Ruth was a devoted and selfless wife and mother. She worked for the Campbell’s Soup Company in Tecumseh and owned and managed Omi’s Café in Tecumseh. While living in Glennallen, Alaska, Ruth worked as a receptionist at Cross Road Medical Center. She was a lifelong- dedicated member of the Catholic church, and she was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, as well as St. Andrew’s Altar Society.
Ruth’s family was her main passion and joy. She enjoyed traveling greatly, and outdoor trips with her family. Ruth loved to dance, especially with Tom or anyone else who would join her. She was a creative and gifted quilter.
She passed away peacefully on January 17, 2023 at her home in Tecumseh, with her family by her side, at the age of 74.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Tom; children, Stephanie Meldrum, Justin Rother and wife Serena, Jon Rother and wife Maggie, Josh Rother and wife Jenny, Stacey Rother and husband Jose Owens, and Jacquelyn “Jackie” McMahan and husband Bryan; nineteen grandchildren; sisters, Sandy Seiler, Eva Cram, and Kay Gilliland; brother, Leonard Wunderlich; numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jean.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, January 20, 2023 at the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Tecumseh, with Father Christopher Kubat officiating. C.J. Lamb-Evans, organist, accompanied vocalists Jenny Rother and Serena Rother. Special music included “You Are Mine,” “Amazing Grace,” and “Songs of the Angels.” Congregational hymns were “Here I Am, Lord,” “I Am the Bread of Life,” and “The Lord Is My Shepherd.” Pallbearers were Stephanie Meldrum, Justin Rother, Jon Rother, Josh Rother, Stacey Rother, and Jacquelyn McMahan. Honorary pallbearers were Judy Simpson, Serena Rother, Maggie Rother, Jenny Rother, Jose Owen, and Bryan McMahan.
Interment was held at the Omaha National Cemetery, Omaha. Memorials may go to the family’s choice. Services were entrusted to Wherry Mortuary of Tecumseh.
