Ernest L. “Ernie” “Bud” Hood, 88, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away March 14, 2026, at Chapters Living in Council Bluffs.

Ernie was born October 3, 1937, in St. Paul, to the late General Lee and Neoma C. (Sherman) Hood. He graduated from Wolbach High School in 1955.

Ernie married W. Roberta “Bobbi” Farr on November 17, 1956, in Council Bluffs. They were blessed with three sons, Darcy, Robbie, and Darin. Ernie was a member of the Army Reserves from 1956 until 1962. He retired from Western Electric/AT&T in 1994 after thirtyseven- and-a-half years of service. Ernie was a member of Creekside Church. In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his son, Robbie Hood in 1976; three brothers; and five sisters.

Ernie is survived by his sons, Darcy (Julia) Hood of Minden, Iowa and Darin Hood of Auburntown, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; sister, Jeanne Mathis of Gordon; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, March 18th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer- Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer- Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel in Council Bluffs. A luncheon will immediately follow at the Walnut Hill Reception Center. Interment will be in the Neola, Iowa Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hillcrest Hospice or Lewis Township Fire & Rescue.
