Cynthia “Cindy” R.

Benson, 47, of Grand Island (formerly of Dannebrog), died on Saturday, December 9, 2023 in Grand Island.

Funeral services were held on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Faith Lutheran Church in Nysted. Pastor Bob Carlson officiated.

Val Killinger was the pianist. Congregational hymns included “Softly and Tenderly” and “Amazing Grace.” Pallbearers included Kirk Chelewski, Kent Chelewski, David Sautter, Ryan Grim, and Rusty Roy. A private inurnment was held at Nysted Cemetery.

A visitation was held on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Jacobsen-Greenway- Dietz Funeral Home in St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in memory of Cynthia.

Cindy was born on December 1, 1976 to Ervin Charles and Carol Lee (Burke) Benson in Grand Island. She was confirmed at St. Peder’s Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. She grew up in the Dannebrog area and graduated from Centura High School in 1995. She enjoyed playing in the concert band. She continued her education at Platte College before she encountered health issues. She was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Genoa.

She leaves behind her mother, Carol Benson of Grand Island, as well as other relatives and friends.

Cindy was preceded in death by her father, Ervin.
