Marilyn May Kay was born December 2, 1935, to Earl and Caroline (Schwieger) Kay on a farm south of Grand Island. She received her education and grew up in the Grand Island area, graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1953.
She married Raymond Beyersdorf on January 28, 1954, at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms. They became the parents of four sons: Michael, Randy, David, and Russell. Because Raymond was serving in the United States Air Force when they were married, the couple moved to Columbus, Ohio, where Marilyn worked as a secretary for Pollock Paper Company. Following Raymond’s discharge, they returned to Nebraska and farmed for several years before his career in the sugar beet industry took them to New York, Michigan, and North Dakota.
In 1978, Marilyn and Raymond purchased the Bel-Air Motel in St. Paul. After selling the motel in 1997, Marilyn worked as secretary for Christ Lutheran Church and, later, for the Wroblewski Law Office.
Marilyn was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Platt-Duetsche Society, where she enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and visiting with friends.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-inlaw, Randy Beyersdorf of Lincoln, David and Carmen Beyersdorf of Lincoln, and Russell and Kathryn Beyersdorf of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren, Moya Beyersdorf (fiancé Quinn), Haley (Matt) Goeken, Quinten Beyersdorf, Andrea (John) Gorman, Zachary Peterson, and Naomi Beyersdorf; great-granddaughters, Brynn Gorman and Nelly Goeken; sister, Gloria Jean Caudill of Lebanon, Tennessee; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Beyersdorf; son, Michael Beyersdorf; daughter-in-law, Susan Beyersdorf; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Joan Kay; brotherin- law and sister-in-law, Neal and Louella Marco; and brother-in-law, Gary Caudill.
