Albert J. Meyer, 94, of St. Paul, formerly of Palmer, died on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Brookfield Park Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in St. Paul.

Funeral services were held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Palmer. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer. Pastor John Dolittle officiated.

Marcia Bockerman was the pianist.

Musical selections included “I Know That My Redeemer Lives,” “Beatuiful Savior,” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Palmer.

Albert was born in Burwell; however, his family soon moved to Merrick County, where he grew up in the Archer and Palmer areas.

Albert graduated from Palmer High School in 1948.

Albert was united in marriage to Darlene Sorensen of Palmer on June 13, 1954, in Dannebrog. The couple lived in Palmer for sixty-three years and were married for sixty-six wonderful years. They were crowned king and queen of the Grundlovsfest in Dannebrog in 2017. They were also honored as the grand marshals of the Palmer Fall Festival. Albert and Darlene were longtime members of St.

John’s Lutheran Church in Palmer.

Albert served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1953. He then began his career in Palmer working for Dinsdale’s. Albert worked at the Gee Service Station in Palmer starting in 1955 and later became the sole owner of Meyer Oil Company for over forty years before retiring.

Albert also served as Palmer’s mayor for ten years.

Albert’s hobbies included collecting coins, gambling, traveling with his family, going to high school athletic events, along with attending March Madness with his sons and grandson for twenty-plus years. He enjoyed listening to polka music and loved to decorate for Christmas.

In November of 2017, Albert and Darlene moved into the Heritage at Sagewood in Grand Island, where they enjoyed the company of many. Darlene passed away on November 3, 2020. Albert then moved to Brookfield Park Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in St. Paul.

Those left to cherish his memory include sons and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Meyer of Grand Island and Steven and Jamie Meyer of Grand Island; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Mark Washburn of Grand Island; grandchildren, Brandon Meyer and Joy Anderson of Omaha, Lindsay Meyer and Isidro Palma of Scottsdale, Arizona, Ashley Washburn of Lincoln, and Justin Washburn and Lily Snyder of Omaha; great-grandchildren, Kristian Washburn, Maverick Washburn, and Nicolle Washburn, all of Omaha; sister, Wanda Beavers of Texas; brother, Franklin Carr of Texas; sisters-in-law, Delores Goering of Grand Island and Dorothy Ruff of Broomfield, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Albert was preceded in death by his mother, Sophie Meyer; wife, Darlene Meyer; two brothers, Coy Carr and Johnny Carr; and brothers-in-law, Darold Goering and Roger Ruff.
