Paul L. Piontkowski, 66, of Phillips, died Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Tabitha at Prairie Commons in Grand Island.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Reverend Richard L. Piontkowski officiated.

Recorded selections included “Back in Your Arms Again” by The Mavericks and “Guitars, Cadillacs” by Dwight Yoakam.

Honorary bearers included Paul Stoner, Chad Shepard, Randy Haumont, Donnie Huff, and Terry Rasmussen.

Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Paul was born on June 3, 1958 in Grand Island, the son of Emil L. and Wilhelmina W. (Skala) Piontkowski. Paul grew up in St. Paul, where he received his education and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1976.

He was united in marriage to Shirley J. Volkl on April 21, 1988 at St. Paul. The couple first lived in St. Paul, later moving to Phillips. Paul worked as a trucker for many years.

He loved to hunt and fish.

He is survived by his son and his friend, Tom Piontkowski and Kaiti Simons of Phillips; sisters, Angie Piontkowski and Joyce Sydzyik, both of Grand Island; niece, Holly Mendenhall of New York; and nephew, Matthew Mendenhall of Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, on April 10, 2013; his parents; and his step-father, Lores Wolf.
