Mary L. Miller, 80, of St. Paul, died Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.

Mary chose to be cremated. Her family will hold a private graveside service later this spring in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Gervin Miller. The Reverend Vince Parsons will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.

Mary was born on April 11, 1944, in Omaha, the daughter of Roy B. and Mary M. (Tylkowski) Brouwer. When she was a young girl, she moved with her family to Farwell, where she was baptized and attended St. Anthony’s Parochial School. In 1955, the family moved to Grand Island, where she continued her education. She graduated from Grand Island Central Catholic in 1962. Mary then attended and graduated from Sa-Rob Beauty School in Grand Island and worked as a beautician for several years. Later, she worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunitions Plant in Grand Island and then worked for Monfort’s.

She was united in marriage to Gervin O. Miller on January 14, 1983 in St. Paul. The couple first lived on a farm near Cushing, later moving into St. Paul in the early 1990s. She drove the special education bus and also worked in the kitchen at St. Paul Public Schools. She and Gervin also delivered the Grand Island Independent and Omaha World Herald newspapers. She worked for Sally’s Beauty Supply in Grand Island for nineteen years, retiring in 2019.

Gervin passed away on April 29, 2012, and Mary continued to live in her home the rest of her life.

Mary loved Nebraska Cornhuskers and Kansas City Chiefs football and enjoyed thrift store shopping.

She is survived by her children, Todd Berney of St. Paul, William Berney of Doniphan, Robert and Vicki Berney of Doniphan, Kimberley Bowen of St. Paul, and Gavin and Shalyn Miller of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Brouwer of Lincoln; and sisters and brothers-inlaw, Joan and Val West of Milford and Claire and Les Aguilar of Grand Island.

In addition to her husband, Gervin, she was preceded in death by her parents.
