Janis A. Gustafson, 84, passed into the arms of Jesus on December 10, 2024, at Good Samaritan Village in Grand Island.

Celebration of Life service was held on Tuesday, December 17th at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island, with Pastor Chad Haygood officiating. Burial will be in the Cedarview Cemetery in Doniphan at a later date.

All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Village—Grand Island or St. Croix Hospice.

Jan was born on May 31, 1940, in Grand Island, to Melvin “Doc” and Irene (Dammann) Bahensky. She graduated from St. Paul High School in 1957.

She married James Reiss to whom two children were born, Jeffrey and Joni. Later, she married James Gustafson.

Jan is a child of God through her faith in Jesus, and God’s love motivated her to serve others cheerfully. For several years, she volunteered at some of her favorite places: Good Samaritan Village—Grand Island, Red Bird Bakery, Teen Reach Adventure Camp, Royal Family Kids Camp, and Prairie Winds in Doniphan, among other places. She always met a new friend anywhere she went. Jan was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many.

She is survived by daughter, Joni Schlatz; daughter-in-law, Sharon Reiss; grandchildren, Amy Schlatz, Renee (Greg) Vinton, Jena Schlatz, Katherine (Philip) Friesen, Laurel (C.J.) Snodgrass, Caleb (Sara) Reiss, Elisabeth (Adam) Jones, and Christiana Reiss; nine great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Jeanette Bahensky; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband, James Gustafson; son, Jeffrey Reiss; son-inlaw, Stuart Schlatz; and parents, Melvin (Doc) and Irene Bahensky.
