Ronald Lee Porter, the son of Raymond and Floy (Honeycutt) Porter, was born on October 9, 1934 in Nelson. He passed away on November 21, 2024, at the Brodstone Hospital in Superior at the age of ninety years, one month, and twelve days.

Ron graduated from Nelson High School in 1952. On April 7, 1956, he was united in marriage to LaVeta Fleck in Deweese. This union was blessed with five children. Ron farmed all of his life. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Card Party Club. He loved playing cards with family and friends and socializing with his coffee, Monday night, and Friday night groups. He was most proud of his large family, as he was an only child.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Floy Porter; wife, LaVeta Porter; in-laws, Hubert and Gertrude Fleck; brothers and sisters-in-law, Vernon and wife Terri, Ernie and wife Jeanette, and Barb Fleck; sister and brother- in-law, Lorain and husband Harold Faimon; two infant children; and grandson, Drew Cassell.

He is survived by his children, Peggy Cassell and husband Donald, Doug and wife Connie, all of Nelson; Randy and wife Jacki of Superior, Richard and wife Denise of St. Paul, and Pam McDermott of Hickman; brothers-in-law, Norbert Fleck and wife Linda of Hastings, and Jerome Fleck of Lincoln; eightteen grandchildren; twenty- four great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Superior, with Father John Birkel officiating.

Musical selections included “Amazing Grace,” “On Eagles Wings,” “Be Not Afraid,” “Ave Maria,” and “How Great Thou Art,” with Mike Follmer and Stephanie Thayer as vocalists and Susan Janda as accompanist. Lector was Gary Ostdiek, acolyte was Ron Rempe, and servers were Nolan Meyer and Abram Carter.

Pallbearers were Matt Porter, Michael Porter, Dustin Cassell, Drew Cassell (heavenly pallbearer), Mark Porter, and Ross Porter. Honorary Pallbearers were Denise Clements, Kayla Grove, Kristen Porter, Dina Hoelting, Ashley DeLeon, Addyson McDermott, Danielle Hlavac, Sarah Porter, Emery Baxa and Michelle Greydanus.

Inurnment was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson.

A memorial has been established and may go in care of the family.
