Mary H. Anderson, 83, of St. Paul, died Friday, February 23, 2024 at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul, surrounded by her family.

Mary chose to be cremated. A celebration of her life will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2024, at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul. The Reverends Martha Voigt and Dorthea Fairbanks will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul.

Honorary bearers included Owen, Cody, Sheldon, Tara, Crystal, Michelle, Marie, William, Jason, Robert, Jesse, Durene, Donald, Tasha, Brandon, Kaylene, Jordan, Dylan, Kyle, Brianna, Jacob, and her great-grandchildren.

Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Mary was born on December 16, 1940, at Rifle, Colorado, the daughter of Edward and Dorothy (Thompson) Johnson. The family lived in various places during her childhood, where she received her education, eventually finishing in Moab, Utah.

She met the love of her life, Donald R. Anderson, and they were married on April 24, 1958 in Moab. In 1959, the couple moved to Nebraska, eventually farming near Wolbach, where they raised their family. Mary also worked at the Greeley Care Home, Greeley, Brick Palace, O’Gorman Oil, and cooked at the Mc-Manus Café. Later, she worked as a cook for St. Paul Public Schools. In 2012, the couple retired and moved to St. Paul.

Mary was a member of the United Methodist Church in St. Paul.

Mary was a beautiful seamstress, sewing many dresses and clothing for her family. Throughout her life, she was always taking care of her family, including her siblings, children, and grandchildren. She had an amazing bond with her siblings, as they were so close with each other. Mary’s greatest passion was for cooking and baking both of which she was very good at.

She is survived by her five children, Julie Haller of Fruita, Colordado, Donald and Norma Anderson of Milford, Terrie Heaps of St. Paul, Larry Anderson The Phonograph-Herald | July 10, 2024

and Victoria Dobson of Fullerton, and Gary and Heather Anderson of Papillion; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty- six great-grandchildren; siblings and spouses, June and Art Anderson of St. Paul, Shirley Gibson of Grand Junction, Colorado, Irene Ollrich of Grand Junction, Colorado, Gary Johnson of Grand Junction, Colorado, Dale Johnson of Clifton, Colorado, Verna Wyatt of Fairbanks, Alaska, Gloria and Jim Street of Grand Junction, Colorado, Karla and Steve Clark of Grand Junction, Colorado, Winston and Dee Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Helen and Phil Taylor of Richland, Washington; a very special friend and former neighbor, Martha Voigt of St. Paul; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Don, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, James Anderson; two sons-in-law, Loren Haller and James Heaps; infant granddaughter, Makayla Anderson; infant great-grandson, Dirk Haller; sister and brothers-in-law, Norie and Earl Buzzard, Chuck Gibson, Ray Ollrich, and Linsay Wyatt; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Thyrill “Ted” Johnson, Mert and Peri Johnson, and Vickie Johnson and Diane Johnson.
