Donald L. Lewandowski, 88, of Giltner died on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at Grand Island Regional Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, February 2, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Giltner, with Reverend Mark Seiker celebrating. Burial followed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. A visitation was held on Thursday with a Rosary at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Donald was born on July 27, 1935, in Ashton, to Leo and Oda (Obermiller) Lewandowski. He grew up on the farm and attended District No. 73 School through the eighth grade, after which he worked on the family farm.

On August 17, 1957, Donald was united in marriage to Maxine Spotanski at Loup City. They moved to Philips, where Donald worked as a hired hand for Hinzeman. Later, they moved to Aurora, where he worked for Kansas Nebraska Gas Company. After they moved to Giltner, he and his son had a cow/calf operation, and he was employed at Pioneer Hybrids until he retired.

Donald was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening and raising livestock. He was very active with his children’s 4-H projects.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Tom Lewandowski of Grand Island, Rex (Amy) Lewandowski of Roseville, California, and Joyce (Larry) Klein of Sutton; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; brother, Howard Lewandowski of New Jersey; and sister-in-law, Louise (Vern) Vodehnal of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine in 2017; grandson, Tim Silva; sister, Marjorie (Johnny) Dzingle; and brother, Alvin Lewandowski.
