Jerry D. Lemburg
Jerry D. Lemburg 76, of Holdrege, formerly of Farwell, passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2023, at Kearney Regional Medical Center, with his family by his side.
A Celebration of Life service was held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Jacobsen-Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home in St. Paul. Pastor Steve Neal officiated. Music selections included “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Take My Hand, Precious Lord,” and “Lead Me Home.” Military honors were provided by American Legion Post No. 119. Jacobsen-Greenway- Dietz Funeral Home of St. Paul assisted the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for later designations.
Jerry was born on June 10, 1947, to Gilbert and Joyce (Mortensen) Lemburg, in St. Paul. He graduated with honors from Boelus High School in 1965. He then attended Kearney State College and graduated again with honors in 1969. On February 3, 1970, Jerry joined the service, where he was a wiring specialist for the United States Air Force. Jerry was deployed to several countries, including Germany, Spain, Turkey, Iraq, France, and England. He left with an honorable discharge on January 27th, 1974 and returned home to Farwell.
In 1980, Jerry married Deb Doyle and was blessed to adopt Jessica and Jeremy. They went on to have two more children, Audrey and James.
Jerry worked for Lukasiewicz Furniture and Ken’s Appliance for several years before moving out of the area. Jerry lived in St. Paul, Broken Bow, St. Joseph, Missouri, and Leavenworth, Kansas, before returning home to Nebraska and settling in Holdrege in 2022.
Jerry was a very smart man and enjoyed playing cards, collecting coins, going to auctions, and doing puzzles. He especially liked and cherished fishing with his dad. He was a talented artist and drew the 1987 Farwell Centennial design. He thought outside the box and could fix any appliance. He loved his coffee black and always had a story to tell. He was very proud to have served our country.
Survivors include his daughter, Audrey (Brad) Thomsen of St. Paul; son, James (Denise) Lemburg of Alda; daughter in-law, Retha Lemburg of Hastings; former wife, Deb Lemburg of Wolbach; brothers, Neal (Sue) Lemburg of Grand Island and, Warren (Jan) Lemburg of Palisade; sister in-law, Judy Lemburg of Farwell; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dallas and Gary; children, Jessica and Jeremy; and niece, Mindi Goings.
