Christmas Cheer Fund Drive in St. Paul

The 2022 Christmas Cheer Fund Drive for Howard County is now underway. The program will be sponsored by the United Methodist Church of St. Paul and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Families in need of a Christmas Cheer package will be able to pick up an application at the Methodist church, 1320 Baxter Street, St. Paul, Nebraska 68873, Citizens Bank and Trust, 721 7th Street, or the St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce office, 619 Howard Avenue, in St. Paul, Nebraska. The Methodist church’s hours are 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. To be considered as a recipient, all completed applications must be returned to the United Methodist Church by Friday, November 18th, 2022. Again this year, gift cards to Hometown Market will be distributed. Beginning the first week in December, there will be mitten/stocking cap/sock trees at both the Methodist church and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. If you’d like to purchase a gift for a child or family ($25-$30 limit per gift), gift tags may be picked up at either location. Wrapped items should be returned to the same location from which you selected a gift tag no later than December 9th. Anyone wanting to make a financial donation may do so at Citizens Bank and Trust. The Christmas Cheer packages will be distributed on Friday, December 16, 2022, between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., at the Methodist church. Kappa Chapter Gathers on September 15th

Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met on September 15, 2022 at St. Francis School in Humphrey. Mary Helen Fuchs, Kappa member, previously taught and currently substitutes at the school and arranged a delightful day for members to reexperience and recall elementary school memories. A book fair hosted by staff and students filled the entry area, and the classroom where members met offered art activities and pre-lunch snacks. After a warm welcome, participants made “stained glass” window décor and discussed a flood of memories. Next, a delicious school lunch of homemade chili, salad bar, cinnamon rolls, and drinks was served in the gymnasium.

Legion Family Gathers

The joint session of the Post 236 Legion, Sons, and Unit of Wolbach was called to order by Luke Thompson. Two Sons, seven Legion, and eight Auxiliary members were in attendance. The invocation was given by Chaplain Marge Stoffel, and POW/ MIA empty chair was read by Luke Thompson and Jan Steenson. The Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem, and Preamble were recited by all. The announcements of events coming up included the Sons of American Legion Cook-Off Fundraiser on October 1st. It also included the District 6 Fall Round-Up at the St. Paul Legion on October 16th, with registration beginning at 10:00 a.m. and being open until 11:00 a.m. The meal will cost $10. On October 18th, the legion will hold their joint meeting at 7:00 p.m. Important dates to fly the flag include: September 25th, October 9th at half staff, October 10th, and October 13th. Discussion was held regarding the cook-off and how they needed workers for work hours. Each group was dismissed to their own meetings. The secretary’s report was read and approved, as well as the treasurer’s report. A thank you was given to those bringing food for the Legion Auxiliary dinner. The loose change collected will go to the Children and Youth Fund. In October, the change will go to the Emergency Fund.

Terry Wegner to Receive Award

The Cattle Feeders Hall of Fame has announced the 2023 inductees and award winners who will be recognized at the organization’s fourteenth annual banquet on January 31, 2023, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Of the many award winners, Terry Wegner of Wolbach was named an Arturo Armendariz Distinguished Service Award winner. He served more than forty-five years in the cattle industry while devoting countless hours to working with dairy cattle. Wegner brings a wealth of knowledge and loyalty to the cattle industry. Recognition of these inductees and award winners will be held at the Cattle Feeders Hall of Fame banquet and ceremony on January 31, 2023, in conjunction with the Cattle Industry Convention and the NCBA Trade Show that will be held on February 1st through the 3rd in New Orleans. “These individuals have devoted their careers to staying true to our mission and improving production practices in the industry,” said Cliff Becker, the senior vice president at

Wolbach Fire and Rescue received a $100 donation from Martin Costello. The Wolbach Parks and Recreation Fund for the splash pad received four $10 donations from Mick and Donna Rother in memory of the following: Colleen Killinger, Phyllis Addink, Mary Shrinner, and LaFern Mudloff.
