Lower Loup Basin benefits from wet summer

On the surface, a wet spring and summer in much of the area has helped the Loup River system to bounce back significantly after years of sustained drought. Rivers have been seeing average and above-average flows, and reservoirs have been high, some the highest they have been in several years. However, the static water levels in much of the Lower Loup Natural Resources District (LLNRD) remain dire.

TOWN AND COUNTRY CLUB MEETS

The Town and Country Club met on August 22nd at the home of Joyce Berney for the club’s birthday party. All seven members were present. The group played the games of Trash, Golf, and Dice. Wanda, Marilyn, and Lola were winners. Members enjoyed cake and ice cream and then opened gifts from their Secret Sisters. The group’s next meeting will be on September 19th with Wanda Rother as hostess.

Ten Years Ago, 2014 New Arrivals—RUSSELL: Dustin and Amanda Russell of Fullerton, formerly of Wolbach, are parents of a son, born on July 28th. He weighed nine pounds, fourteen ounces, and was 21½ inches long.

Days Gone By

The Howard-Greeley County area is no longer in a drought, which is the case for much of Nebraska. Most of the state has experienced rainfall since the last release of the drought information on Thursday and more rains are predicted this week, which could move more areas out of the abnormally dry category.
