St. Paul dominated play on both sides of the ball Friday night, allowing the Wildcats to top O’Neill 42-6 an improve to 1-0 on the season.

“I told the kids those first games are tough as you kind of come out sloppy because you are trying to get a feel for the game,” said St. Paul Head Coach Rusty Fuller following the contest. “Then we sustained some drives there at the end of the first quarter and into the second, and we started to get into a rhythm.”

St. Paul would end up scoring one touchdown in the first quarter and two more in the second to lead 21-0 at the break.

“As the game progressed, I thought out guys did a really nice job,” Fuller said.

In the second half, St. Paul added three more scores to their tally, with the Wildcats crossing the goal line once in the third frame and twice more in the fourth.

O’Neill’s only score came early the fourth quarter.

Friday night’s win marks the first time since 2019 that the Wildcats have started the season 1-0.

Next Friday, St. Paul will be looking to improve to 2-0 when they host Minden. The Whippets fell to Adams Central 28-7 on Thursday night.
