Stromberg Stays Alive in Class D Competition
Palmer's Earl, Central Valley's Grim fall in consolation rounds
After the first two rounds of consolation matches on Friday morning, one Class D wrestler from the area remains in the hunt for some hardware.
In one of the final matches of the opening session of Friday’s action at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Palmer senior Jacob Stromberg picked up a late second-period pin opposite Plainview’s Xander Albin. The Tiger’s victory over the Pirate helped Stromberg secure his spot in Friday night’s blood round. Stromberg is currently sitting at 2-1 for the weekend.
Palmer’s other wrestler that competed on Friday morning, Emmerson Earl, lost his opening round match in the consolation bracket. The sophomore lost a 6-4 decision to Hay Springs’s Wesley Jacobs and finished his season with a 28-23 record.
Also representing the area on Friday morning in Class D action was Tristin Grim of Central Valley. The Cougar won his first match in the consolation bracket by pinning Anthony Running hawk of Hay Springs in the second period. In the second round of the consolation bracket, Grim was taken to the mat by Aquinas Catholic’s Josiah Brezina in less than one-hundred seconds. The Cougar, Central Valley’s lone qualifier this year, ended his season with a 28-24 record.
Action continues for Class D competitors tonight, with the blood round to begin at 6:30pm.
