The Nebraska State Wrestling Championships got off to a snowy start on Thursday morning at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, and the area’s three Class D wrestlers struggled to gain traction in the competitive field.

Palmer’s Emmerson Earl and Jacob Stromberg, as well as Central Valley’s Tristin Grim, all lost in their opening round matches.

Earl, who now sports a 28-22 record at 138-pounds, was pinned in the first period by Kyler Mosel of Plainview. Stromberg battled Perkins County’s Juan Perez in the opening round at 285, with the Plainsman getting the second-period pin.

Grim, who entered the tournament with a 27-22 record, battled Plainview’s Xander Albin into the second period before the Pirate got the pin.

The tournament continues tomorrow, with the consolation matches for classes A and D starting at 9:00am.
