The second day of action inside a snow-covered CHI Health Center in Omaha will be a busy one for area wrestlers.

Friday morning’s slate starts with the opening rounds of the consolation bracket. Seven St. Paul wrestlers are scheduled to hit the mats in those rounds. They include Layne Baker at 106; Rylan Rasmussen at 113; Derrick Ruzicka at 120; Mason Majerus at 150; Alex Meiencke at 157; Cody Kuszak at 190; and Ryder Anderson at 215.

St. Paul’s other two wrestlers, Bryson Thomsen and Ashton Meinecke, cemented their spots in tonight’s semifinal round with quarterfinal victories.

Thomsen, who competes at 165, will see Syracuse’s Cy Petersen, who sported a 49-4 record heading into the tournament. Meinecke, at 175, will wrestle Kreyton Rockefeller of Gibbon. The Buffalo entered the tournament with a 44-6 record.

Centura’s lone state qualifier, Kolten Simons, lost his opening round match and will also be wrestling on the backside of the bracket this morning.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Palmer’s two qualifiers—Uriel Guzman and Gatlin Reimers—will both compete in the semifinals on Friday night. Guzman will see Jase Roberson of Guardian Angels Central Catholic, while Reimers will be pitted against Rowan Jarosik of Sandy Creek.

Central Valley, which had five state qualifiers, has one wrestler remaining in state title contention. Jario Lazos, who wrestles at 157, won both of his matches on Friday and will now face Jett Vrbka of Shelby-Rising City in the semifinals. The rest of the Cougars’ delegation—Dallas Wadsworth, Canon Holley, Luke Shoemaker, and Grady Kelley—will compete in this afternoon’s consolation bracket.

St. Paul’s lone girls’ state qualifier, Gracie Ackles, lost her first-round match and will back in action this afternoon. In the Wildcats’ second-ever showing at the girls’ state tournament, Ackles will see Ashaya Steele of Crete in the opening round of the consolation bracket.

Action is set to get underway on Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. for Class C, while Class D and girls’ consolation matches are scheduled to begin at noon. The semifinals of the NSAA State Wrestling Championships will begin at. 6:30 p.m.
