St. Paul Juniors Keep Win Streak Intact with Victory Over PWG
The St. Paul Junior Legion baseball team remains perfect through three games, most recently knocking off Palmer-Wolbach- Greeley (PWG) 12-3 last Thursday.
PWG came into the matchup on a hot streak, besting Albion 6-1 in the season opener and slugging their way to a lopsided 16-5 win over Grand Island Tom Dinsdale twenty-four hours later. Last week, St. Paul jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead off of RBIs from Braxton Heater and Levi Bader. The visitors would answer back with a run of their own in the bottom of the second frame, scoring Gatlin Reimers on an RBI from Dylan Beaty, cutting the lead to 3-1.
Then, the St. Paul bats came alive. Combined with some PWG fielding blunders, the St. Paul Juniors posted three third inning hits, drew four walks, forced two fielding errors, and rallied for seven runs to take a commanding 10-1 lead into the bottom of the third frame.
St. Paul would score one more run in the fourth inning before PWG answered back with two of their own, scoring on RBIs from Zandyn Wolf and Emmerson Earl, but it was too little, too late. St. Paul’s Aiden Ritter brought Jadyn Thomsen home on a single to left field, and relief pitcher Drew Feeken retired the side in the bottom half of the inning, ending the contest by way of the run rule.
Bader and Heater had big days at the plate from the middle of the lineup for St. Paul, earning two hits apiece and combining for five total RBIs. Also earning hits for St. Paul were Zandyn Weller, Christian Lemburg, Thomsen, Ritter, and Mason Majerus, who finished with two hits, two runs, and an RBI.
Bader was awarded the win on the pitcher’s mound, lasting three innings, while allowing one earned run on no hits and four strikeouts. Feeken, in two innings of work, surrendered two earned runs on two hits and two strikeouts.
Boston Wood got the starting pitching nod for PWG and, despite ten runs scoring during his three innings on the rubber, only two were deemed earned. Cannon Holley came out of the bullpen and handled the final two innings, letting in two runs on two total hits.
Kelly and Holly earned the only hits for PWG, while Reimers scored two runs and Beaty, Earl, and Wolf all picked up RBIs.
The St. Paul Juniors are set to travel to Grand Island on Thursday for a showdown at 5:00pm.
