There’s no more long hard days, No more calves to tag or colts to break. And there’s one less hat in the arena tonight, But his entry fee’s been paid.

Now there’s hoof prints on the streets of gold, Because Today God called a Cowboy home. -R.R. “Bobby” Christensen, 91, of St. Paul, died Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Brookefield Park Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in St. Paul, surrounded by his loving family.

Bobby’s wishes were to be cremated with a private family graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul, with Rod Pedersen officiating. Musical selections will include “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys” by Willie Nelson, “The Old Rugged Cross” by Alan Jackson, and “The Last Cowboy Song” by Ed Cruce and Willie Nelson. Graveside military honors were provided by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul and the United States Army Funeral Honors Team. Bobby’s only request was to have his friends and family gather for a “Beer Party.” Please join the family at The Back 40 in Farwell at 4:00 p.m. on February 24, 2025 to celebrate Bobby’s life.

Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Bobby was born on May 23, 1933, at Dannevirke, the son of Andrew and Blanche (Klein) Christensen. He later moved with his family west of St. Paul, where he attended Howard County rural schools. He grew up breaking horses and mules for his father and began trucking before he was sixteen years old.

He was also in a partnership with Otto Havlik in operating a cattle feedlot from the 1960s until the mid 1980s.

He hauled horses across the United States and later drove truck for Grand Island Contract Carriers until retiring in 2007. Thelma died August 14, 2007. Bobby then went back to work driving for Aurora Co-Op of Dannebrog for several years.

He was a member of Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul.

Bobby loved riding, breaking, trading, and buying and selling horses. He also enjoyed drinking beer, playing cards, reading western books, watching western movies and television shows, and attending auctions of all types. Bobby loved spending time with all of his grandchildren.
