Paul was born on May 27, 1943 to Raymond and Ella (Kunze) Aschwege in Palmer. Paul attended elementary school at Gage Valley and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1962. He lived on the farm near Palmer most of his life, moving to St. Paul in 2013. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul.

Paul was a kind, gentle, frugal man who loved Polka music. He had done some traveling, with the last being a very special trip to Denmark and Germany with cousins. However, his passion was for the farm. He worked and lived there, caring for his mother until her death. Paul raised cattle and cared for a flock of sheep for many years. He created fond memories for many Palmer school children with a yearly kindergarten field trip to the Aschwege farm for the little children to watch the shearing of the The Phonograph-Herald | January 10, 2024

sheep. Many little cousins also remember visiting Paul’s farm to watch the little lambs romp and play. They also enjoyed cuddling the baby lambs.

Paul was liked by everyone he met. He attended church religiously, voted regularly, and very seldom missed the Red Cross blood drive. Paul gave 104 pints (13 gallons) of blood in his lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his father; mother; brother, Robert Aschwege; and an infant sister. He left many cousins to cherish his memory.
