Janice Ann Jelinek, 76, of St. Paul, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul.

Reverend Vince Parsons celebrated the Mass. Sandi Mudloff was the lector.

Betty Van Dyke was the musician. Song selections included “Be Not Afraid,” “The Body of Christ,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “Amazing Grace,” and “Go In Peace.”

Casketbearers included Jeff Sweeney, Brad Jelinek, Justin Semin, Eric Jelinek, Chris Sabatka, and Craig Jelinek. Madelyn, Nicholas, and Malorie Sweeney were the gift bearers.

Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.

Janice was born on February 18, 1947, at Seward, the daughter of Edward R. and Agnes A. (Roh) Semin, Jr.

She grew up in Bee, where she received her early education and was a 1965 graduate of East Butler High School. It was there that she met her high school sweetheart, Lumir J. Jelinek. After graduation, she moved to Lincoln and was employed in secretarial work.

She and Lumir were united in marriage on May 16, 1966 at Bee. The couple first lived in Dwight, later moving to David City. The couple eventually moved to Bellwood, where they lived for many years and raised their family. Janice worked for Vishay Dale Electronics in Columbus for over thirty years.

After the couple retired, they moved to St. Paul in 2020 to be closer to their grandchildren.

Janice was a former member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Bellwood, where she was very active in the church and Altar Society for many years.

After moving to St. Paul, she became a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. She was a member of the Toastmasters while working at Vishay Dale’s and even qualified for the State Toastmasters. From 1983 until 1984, she served as a State Chapter Parent for FHA Hero of Nebraska.

Janice enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, sewing, and quilting. She was always the best hostess to anyone who ever stopped by her house, and guests never left hungry. She was famous for her kolaches and sticky buns.

She is survived by her husband, Lumir of St.

Paul; three children and spouses, Linda and Brett Bratten of Armstrong, Missouri, Theresa and Bryan Robinson of St.

Paul, and Anton and Hayley Jelinek of Kearney; eight grandchildren, Blake and Kristel Bratten, Lumir Jacob and Brooke Bratten, Nathan and Jessica Bratten, Tylor and Audrie Robinson, Jordan Robinson and special friend Brandt Bottolfson, Spencer and Delaney Robinson, Mollie Jelinek, and Bodhi Jelinek and special friend Amber Neben; nine great-grandchildren, Brayden, Brinley, Kadience, Zeke, Creed, Quade, Palmer, Brighton, Irelynn, with another one on the way; brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Elaine Semin of La Crescent, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Emily Greguras of Bee; Lumir’s siblings and in-laws, Clara Jelinek of Lillington, North Carolina, Donna Jelinek of Brainard, James and Bernadette Jelinek of Atkinson, and Thomas and Joyce Jelinek of Brainard; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Ehan Edward Jelinek; in-laws, Anton J. and Alma Jelinek; brother, James Dean Semin; and brothers-in-law, Richard Jelinek and Bernard Jelinek.
