Helen (Chancellor) Campbell, 90, died peacefully on December 5, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Granite Falls, Washington.
Helen was born September 14, 1934, in Plattsmouth, to Meredith and Helen (Amick) Chancellor. The family lived in several towns before settling on a farm near Elba. Helen attended school in Elba to the fourth grade. When her father died, the family moved to St. Paul. Helen worked at the telephone company all throughout high school. She graduated in 1953 and married John Panowicz. They moved to Kansas City, then to Salem, Oregon.
Three daughters were born: Victoria, Debra, and Michelle. Helen and John later divorced. She met Robert Campbell and they later were married. John died in 1992, and Helen continued to live in Waldport, Oregon until her health caused her to move to Lake Stevens to live with her daughter Michelle. She moved to a retirement home, where she lived for ten years. Helen was called “Grandma Cookies” by all the grandchildren, as she always brought cookies when she visited.
Survivors include: two daughters, Michelle Brask of Lake Stevens, Washington, and Debra (Jerry) Saunders of Salem, Oregon; a sister, Theda Van Horn of St. Paul, Nebraska; a sister-in-law, Ali Chancellor of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and six granddaughters, eleven great-grandchildren, and nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; her daughter, Victoria; sister, Joyce Alexander; brother, Gary Chancellor; nephew, Dean Miller; and niece, Kari Moorhead.
Graveside services will be at the Elba Cemetery on June 21st at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Nicole Eck officiating.
