Floyd E. Wilson
Floyd E. Wilson, 98, of Elba, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at the United Methodist Church in Scotia.
Arsene Lumami provided words of comfort.
Musical selections included “Old Rugged Cross,” “You Can Let Go Now (Daddy),” and “Love, Me.”
Michael Wilson, Tod Heusinkvelt, Tyler Cunningham, Jamey Sok, Sean Cunningham, and Cameron Cunningham were pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers included Sheri Wilson, Brian Wilson, Deb Heusinkvelt, Becky Cunningham, Amanda Sok, Courtney Wilson, Alyssa Wilson, Tessa Wilson, Jordan Heusinkvelt, Alexis Mendyk, Haleigh Eschliman, Brittany (Sok) Harris, and Trevor Sok.
Interment was at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Scotia with military honors provided by the St. Paul American Legion Honor Guard and the Army Funeral Honors Team.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date. Jacobsen- Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home in St. Paul is assisting the family.
Floyd was born on June 8, 1926, to Leslie and Nellie (Gydesen) Wilson in Cotesfield. He grew up and attended school in North Loup.
Floyd entered the United States Army in 1944, training in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was on the ship on his way to Japan when the war ended. He spent some time in Japan before returning to the United States. He was honorably discharged as a private in 1946.
Floyd married Gail Jeffres on March 8, 1947 in Mankato, Kansas. The couple lived in the North Loup/Scotia area, and he worked for various farmers. In 1956, they moved to a farm near Elba, where they farmed and ran a dairy while raising their three children. Floyd also worked for Zlomke Furniture Store for a few years.
Floyd loved to play card games, especially poker. He enjoyed dancing and playing softball with his children, many times stopping in the yard on his way to the barn to play a little game before doing chores.
Floyd was a member of the Carl Mogensen American Legion Club— Post 119 in St. Paul. He was a friendly and kindhearted man. He also had a soft heart for animals, especially puppies and kittens. He loved to joke around with people, and especially with little children. He always had a smile and was a helping hand to all.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Wayne Wilson of Elba; daughter, Sandra Bryer of St. Paul; daughter-in-law, Connie Wilson of Holdrege; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great- great- grandchildren.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gail; son, Andrew; great-grandson, Trevor; sisters and brothers-inlaw, Bernice and Eldon Sintek and Gladys and George “Buck” Hiett; and son-in-law, Ron Bryer.
