Sheila A. (Verley) Stewart, 61, of Lincoln, died Thursday, January 30, 2026 at home. She passed away after a three-year battle with lung cancer.

Sheila was born in 1964, to Stanley K. and Edna M. (Eby), in St. Paul, Nebraska. Sheila grew up in St. Paul and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1982 as salutatorian. From there, she obtained a degree in business administration from Doane College in 1986. Her career spanned thirty-nine years working for Runza Corporate Office, Nebraska Book Company, and the University of Nebraska— Lincoln. She often served in supervisory roles in accounting offices and loved every minute of making sure things balanced and processes were improved.

Sheila was united in marriage to Donald D. Stewart (of Newport) on October 5, 1991, at St. Libory Catholic Church in St. Libory. The couple was married for thirty- four years and had four children. Sheila’s greatest joy was her family. The couple gave their family the best of both worlds—living and raising the family in Lincoln with many, many trips to Newport to experience ranch life. She converted to the Catholic faith on August 15, 1973, and enjoyed many of the volunteer opportunities the church offered, especially proclaiming the word as a reader. Her hobbies included cross stitching, decorating, puzzles, and scrapbooking.

Sheila is survived by her husband, Don; four children, Kendra (Andrew) Dudasko of Overland Park, Kansas, Clayton (Lexy) of Kansas City, Kansas, Carson (Jessica) of Oceanside, California while stationed at Camp Pendleton, and Chase (Paige) of Bassett; sister and brother of St. Paul, Karen (Randy) Dvorak and Marc Verley, and sister, Marcia (Anthony) Newnum of Lincoln; granddaughter, Millie; brotherand sister-in-laws, Mary (Neil) Ammon, Dale (Janet) Stewart, and Terry (Janet) Stewart; nieces, Nicole (Reed) Goodrich, Alicia (Reed) Happ, Heather (Reed) Paulsen, Shelby Peitzmeier, and Amber (Ammon) Miettinen; nephews, Lucas Stewart, Ryan Stewart, and Aaron Ammon; and several great nieces and nephews.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; sister, Jana (Verley) Peitzmeier; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Lincoln. Father Mike Morin celebrated the Mass.

Sheila will be cremated after the service. Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, St. Gianna Women’s Home, or Sisters of Life.
