Carol Joan Biere was born on March 22, 1940 to Roy A. and Augusta N. Larson (Enevoldsen) in St. Paul.

She was a faithful member of Fairdale Methodist Church, where she was baptized and confirmed. She graduated from St. Paul High School in 1957. During high school, she was active in the school band. She continued her education at the University of Nebraska— Lincoln, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics.

It was at the University of Nebraska where she met Dean. The two were married on July 23, 1961 after the crops were planted and the wheat was cut.

Carol’s first teaching position was in Cook, where she taught home economics, math, and biology. She went on to accept a teaching position at Nebraska City High School in home economics. After four years, she retired to start a family and help Dean on the family farm.

Carol had many jobs on the farm, including bookkeeping, raising two daughters, and even driving the combine at harvest time for twenty- five years.

Carol had been an active member of Bethel United Church of Christ since joining in 1961. She served as a Sunday school teacher and on Women’s Fellowship and many church boards. She was initiated into P.E.O. Chapter CF in 1970, where she served as president. Her membership of fifty-four years was very special to her. She was the founding director of the Otoe County Respite program. She enjoyed being a part of the Neighborhood Social Club up until her passing.

Carol enjoyed researching the genealogy of both her and Dean’s families, and as a result, they travelled extensively to their ancestral places. She also loved bird watching and flower gardening. Carol was a talented musician, playing the piano, accordion, flute, and church organ.

She is survived by Dean, her husband of sixty-three years; her two children, Jennifer (Andrew) Hartman and Anne (Todd Hawkesworth) Biere; and two grandchildren, Gage and Mira Hartman. She is also survived by her brothersin- law, Arlo (Diane) Biere and Fred Terry, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding her in death are their infant daughter, Nadine; brother-in-law, Norman Biere; and sisterin- law, Marcia Terry.

Funeral services were held on July 6, 2024 at Bethel Church in Nebraska City, with burial following in Wyuka Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Children’s Home Society in Omaha.

Marshall Funeral Chapel of Nebraska City is in charge of arrangements.
