Elba Makes Trek to Shelton, Snags Hardware at Invite
The Elba Bluejays joined ten other teams last week at the Shelton Invite, with the Purple and Gold snagging several pieces of hardware at the Bulldogs’ annual meet.
On Thursday afternoon, the Bluejay girls finished the meet tied for ninth place with Heartland Lutheran. Both Elba and the Red Hornets scored nine points at the meet. The boys picked up a solo point at the Shelton Invite, putting them in tenth place. Heartland Lutheran finished with 3.5 points for ninth.
Fullerton won the girls’ team title with 100.33 points, while Elm Creek secured the boys’ championships with 109. The Buffaloes were the runners-up in the girls’ competition, while Wood River placed second in the boys’ team race.
The Bluejays earned nearly all of their points in the field events. Elba’s Mackenzie Lamberson cleared 8-00 to place second in the pole vault. The Bluejay tied with Wood River’s Ellie Morgan in that event. In the high jump, Jamie Wysocki tied for fourth place after she slipped past 4-06. That mark was equaled by Paige Horn of Fullerton.
In the boys’ competition, Cody Donohue placed sixth in the 400-meter dash. The Bluejay completed one lap around the oval in 1:00.59 for the hardware and helped Elba get on the leaderboard.
Both the Bluejays’ 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay teams fell just short of earning hardware. The 400-meter crew of Donohue, Brendon Keene, Tyler McKoski, and Chris Williams came in seventh at 52.30. Quentin Donscheske, Chris Wampler, Seth Patton, and Trevon Rasmussen competed in the mile relay, finishing in seventh at 5:17.96.
This week, the Bluejays are scheduled to compete at the Palmer Invite on Thursday. Then, the following week, the team will be in action at the Goldenrod Conference meet. That meet will be held in Burwell on Friday.
