As of Sunday, the South Loup River is at 194 cubic feet per second. The Middle Loup River at St. Paul is up almost a third more than last week, with a reading of 1.470 cubic feet per second.
We are officially in the Advent season. The word advent comes from the Latin term adventus meaning “arrival” or “coming,” Adventus looks like adventurous to me. So much for my Latin knowledge. Advent is our preparation time for the celebration of the birth of Christ. Family traditions come out in foods, decorations, and church.
Saturday, I learned that some ladies were going to the Rockville Craft Fair, and they took me along. I got to visit with some people I had not seen for a while, purchase a few items, and have lunch in town. Later that evening, Shawn and I attended the “Nutcracker” at the Cairo Community Center. Our grandson was all in when he heard there was a sword fight in the play. He did the dying scene very well. Shawn and I have heard of the “Nutcracker” for years, but we were not aware of the story. Now, we know; and for those who don’t, I’m not going to spoil it for you. The kids did a great job.
Sunday was a beautiful day for December. Shawn and “one-shot Paul” went chucker/pheasant hunting down at Lawrence. I told Shawn don’t let “oneshot Paul get them all” (a little rhyme). When they returned, I learned that Paul is now known as “long-shot Paul”. I’m sure there is a story behind that one. With the guys gone hunting, Sue and I went over to the Boelus firemen’s pancake lunch. It was a great meal, and we didn’t have to cook. It’s just good to get out and talk with neighbors and friends. I took time to put up the Christmas lights outside. It took longer than I thought; I’m so glad the day was nice. Now, on to decorating the inside, a job for next week.
Jeramiah 23:5 says, “‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.’”
