Railroad Crossing Maintenance Delayed Again
Weather permitting, railroad crossing maintenance will begin July 25th on United States Highway 281, south of St. Paul, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT).
Previously, the NDOT had reported that work was to begin on July 11th; however, supply chain issues pushed the project back a week, as originally reported by the Phonograph-Herald, to July 18th. The project was further delayed to July 25th following concerns from municipal and county leaders that the road's closure could affect attendance at the Howard County Fair.
U.S. Highway 281 will be closed at the railroad crossing located south of St. Paul, between Nebraska Highway 58 and Nebraska Highway 92. North and southbound traffic on U.S. Highway 281 will be detoured between the junction of Highway 281 and Highway 58 and the north junction of Highway 281 and Highway 92. The detour will take traffic on Highway 92 north of St. Paul to Midway Corner, south to Dannebrog on Highway 11, and then back east to Highway 281 via Highway 58. The detour will be in effect for traffic in both directions. The project’s anticipated completion is July 29th.
For questions regarding this project or the detour, please contact the Nebraska Central Railroad Company. The NDOT reminds motorists to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.
