As of Sunday afternoon, the South Loup River has a flow of 186 cfs, down from 278 last week, and the flow at the river near St. Paul is at 1,350 cfs, also down from last week’s reading of 1,670 cfs. When I looked at the chart for the week, it’s been an up/down river flowing kind of week.

I attended granddaughter Claire’s track meet on Tuesday. It was nice to get outside and enjoy the sunshine and watch the kids compete. The grandsons stopped in after school on Friday. They put a Lego project together for me that turned out very nice. On Saturday, my friend Sue and I went to St. Paul for coffee. Shawn’s mind this week was on fires, as Cairo and surrounding towns sent some help to other departments dealing with large grass-fires. We were sure praying for more rain.

This week, I witnessed determination and, if first you don’t succeed, try again. There were four turkeys, two toms, and two hens, east of us that were determined to go west. They came under the fence, headed toward our house. The first one got close, then Max barked at him. That made them run back east, under the fence and back in the meadow. The turkeys stayed there for quite a while; I think they were trying to come up with a new plan. After about an hour, they came back, this time walking along the river; they pressed on, heading west. This time, the dogs didn’t see them, and they accomplished their mission.

It reminded me to ‘press on’ just as Paul did, for he wrote in Philippians 3:1314: “No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: ‘Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.’”
