Boelus News
The news Sunday morning at church was the storm that went through Saturday night. Members that live by Nysted, towards Cairo, all had stories of the hail, rain, and wind. At our house, it sounded like bowling balls falling on our roof. The hail only measured two inches across. We were glad it didn’t last that long and there were not that many hailstones. What surprised me was the divots in our gravel where the hail landed. We are very thankful for the rain, as the river’s flows had declined all week. They are back up now. The water flow in the rivers had a steady decline this past week until the rain on Saturday night. The South Loup River on Sunday afternoon measured at 165 cubic feet per second. The Middle Loup River’s discharge was at 781 cfs.
I didn’t know the trade off as our kids were growing, I just knew Shawn was not into changing diapers, so that was up to me. Years later, I discovered I was not the one to teach them to drive. He took care of that. One of our favorite songs is by Alan Jackson, “Drive”. Yes, he let our kids drive our lake boat. We didn’t have an old Jeep, just a Toyota pickup. Now, fast forward to the present, our granddaughter, Kendal, stayed a couple of nights with us. She is a joy to have. We took her for an airboat ride. Next thing I knew, he was giving her instructions and let her “drive”. She’s the first grandchild to drive without help. Shawn kept an eye on her and gave a few hand signals of what to do. She did great. Her smile told it all. Someday, I hope she reaches back in her memories and remembers when grandpa ‘Let Her Drive’.
We have a heavenly father who also gives instructions for life. Psalm 32:8, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.”
