A late-evening tornado on May 17th caused significant damage to the electrical distribution system serving portions of Howard and Merrick counties, downing a number of utility poles and disrupting power to roughly almost 2,000 customers before most service was restored overnight, according to Howard Greeley Rural Public Power District (RPPD) General Manager Dirk Dietz.
